Alaska Invasive Species Week (June 20-26) is in full swing. Beyond planned efforts (listed below) officials are encouraging Alaskans to educate themselves on invasive species, participate in local cleanups, and to take steps to prevent new infestations in the state.
- The Anchorage Parks Foundation will host a bird vetch weed pull in Chugach State Park.
- The U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service will control reed canarygrass on federal lands in Juneau and work with the Alaska Department of Transportation & Public Facilities on similar efforts on state lands.
- The Fish & Wildlife Service and the Copper River Watershed Project will prepare for their first small-scale herbicide application of fluridone to control Elodea on the Copper River delta.
