With the completion of the ten-year $1 million alum treatment, Spring Lakes' lake front and lake-access property owners are getting a break on their maintenance fees.  While the alum treatment cost waterfront owners $190 annually for ten years, the new plan, developed for herbicidal  control of aquatic nuisance plants, will cost $90 a year for four years ($45 annually for lake-access owners). With 1,300 notices sent to property owners, only 7 residents appeared at the public hearing last month. “[They] were in favor of (the assessment) continuing,” Groves said. “If you have an issue with a project and send out 1,300 notices, you're going to get a lot of push-back.”
