Columbia Valley Invasives

Common tansy and field scabious aren’t as well known as hydrilla and buckthorn, but for officials in Columbia Valley and the Columbia Wetlands, these invasives are just as troublesome. “These infestations are relatively close to the Columbia Wetlands Wildlife Management Area and we don’t want it to spread into that sensitive wetland ecosystem,” said Rachel Darvill, event co-ordinator and Program Manager with Wildsight-Golden, a group which led volunteer-powered groups in mechanical harvesting this summer. This has been just part of the response from different organizations which have banded together to control the invasive, educate the public and showcase the history of invasive plant control in the wetlands.
