Thanks to the support of companies like Swish Maintenance, a manufacturer and distributor of maintenance supplies, Ontario parks are able to continue their European water chestnut eradication efforts in the Ottawa River near Voyageur Provincial Park. The only provincial park in Ontario with an infestation of water chestnut-- it was first discovered in the area in 2005-- the invasive has found the shallow, warm bays of the park an ideal habitat. And it is in those areas that eradication efforts are the most difficult, and the most rewarding; a tough situation that the combined resources of corporate sponsors and park staff can help control, “The reason we are so appreciative is that the bays we have at Voyageur would be completely choked with water chestnut plants without the staff and equipment who work to control it.”
