Divers to Fight Eurasian Watermilfoil

Identified in 45 states and three Canadian provinces (B.C., Quebec and Ontario), Eurasian watermilfoil is threading its way through part of Farlain Lake in Tiny Township. The lake, located in Ontario, has a patch of watermilfoil approximately 31 meters by 61 meters. According to the Ministry of Natural Resources, the plant can reduce oxygen levels- bad for local flora and fauna- and serve as an ideal habitat for mosquitoes (due to stagnant water).  Volunteers and commercial divers will be pulling the plant, drying it on land, and then burning it as part of an early control attempt.
