     Leslie St. Spit, a man-made peninsula in Ontario, has become internationally famous for the variety of birds that stop in the area; a claim to fame that the invasive phragmites australis is threatening to destroy. Phragmites is particularly bad in Tommy Thompson Park, where the park authorities have given up on controlling the invasion. “We aren't taking any action to control it, simply because it’s so difficult to control,” said Karen McDonald, project manager with the Toronto and Region Conservation Authority.
