A sold-out crowd of 700 people took part in the St. Clair Flats Waterfowlers Inc. fundraiser; the group, which has committed $100,000 in matching funds with Ducks Unlimited for projects in the St. Claire River Delta, holds the event every year. Helping with the construction and maintenance of new dikes and pump stations, the funds also go to fight one of the area’s pesky invasives, phragmites.

"It's an ongoing thing. Phragmites are a huge problem," said Jerry Gordan, the club’s de-facto spokesman. "We haven't really gotten a handle on it and it requires constant maintenance." Gordan also attributes the event’s yearly sell-out to the many door prizes and raffle tickets that the banquet-guests receive.
