With the return of great egrets, blue herons, yellowlegs, dowitchers and common snipe, a coastal wetland situated along western Lake Erie has officially overcome its phragmites' invasion. Following the controlled burns of the area's infestation, what was once a stand of phragmites is now an ecologically varied coastal embayment with at least three species of bulrush, bur-reed, soft rush, arrowhead and cattails. Three cheers for the Detroit River International Wildlife Refuge team!
